Responsibilities
- Study commonly used patient insurance plans and document insurance information in patient files.
- Process and submit claims daily; monitor and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Coordinate amounts due with appointment staff and identify patients who may need financial discussions.
- Document patient financial discussions and agreements, including payment amounts and schedules.
- Contact patients with missed payments, make collection calls, and follow up by correspondence.
- Prepare and mail monthly patient statements.
- Refer uncollected accounts to collections or small claims court with employer approval; represent the employer in court if needed.
- Monitor accounts handled by collection agencies.
- Provide predetermination documents, arrange patient financing, and schedule treatment.
- Resolve delayed or denied insurance payments and handle daily insurance inquiries.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Skilled in standard office equipment and software, including Excel, Word, and practice management software.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to communicate and work cooperatively with management, staff, and patients.
- Able to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks independently and on time.
- Able to remain professional in stressful situations and follow written and verbal instructions.
