Database administration
- Manage and monitor Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, and Db2 databases, including service requests, PMRs, and calls.
- Initiate and execute database projects according to business requirements.
- Maintain replication and keep disaster-recovery databases current with minimal lag.
- Tune database performance; monitor hit ratios, growth, space, and statistics.
- Ensure backups and health checks, and design appropriate database backup policies.
- Harden databases and manage version upgrades, security, audits, ISO recommendations, and patching.
Operations and support
- Monitor uptime, consistency, alert and error logs, application jobs and services, and critical end-of-day/beginning-of-day status; take corrective action or escalate failures.
- Coordinate managed-service vendor deliverables and resource scheduling to meet SLAs and avoid database-related release delays.
- Handle 24/7 second-level escalations across RDBMS environments and follow service requests and PMRs through closure.
- Identify root causes, implement permanent solutions, and communicate proactively with internal customers.
- Automate jobs where possible, including with shell scripts; support data movement and Db2 reorganization activities.
- Prepare reports, process manuals, SOPs, checklists, system studies, and escalation matrices.
Performance measures
The listed KPIs include 99.5% uptime for supported databases and 100% database backup coverage.
Other measures include continuous monitoring, database tuning, audit and security implementation, patch management, cost management, and operational reporting.
Requirements
- The role supports Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, and Db2 database environments.
- The role includes 24/7 second-level database escalations.
