Role overview

Deployment

• Plan cage, rack, and server layouts with co-location partners and ensure ongoing space, power, and cooling.
• Design hosted solutions with engineering and architecture teams to maximize performance, efficiency, and operability.
• Provision and deploy servers, networks, and other hosting equipment, including hands-on build and configuration.
• Deploy applications and changes, documenting and monitoring service components and integrating them into operational processes.
• Qualify and certify hardware platforms for production deployment.
• Coordinate pre-operational sign-offs to ensure security, availability, and response-time targets are met.
• Troubleshoot integration issues and consult technical stakeholders, including customers, on hosted-solution delivery.

Operations

• Administer and maintain hosted infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, servers, storage, and backups; proactively identify potential incidents.
• Define, document, operate, and improve ITIL-based incident, change, problem, and configuration-management processes.
• Implement and report metrics for hosted-service availability and wider organizational needs.
• Provide hosted-service technical support on a 24x7 on-call rota; resolve incidents and problems and deploy approved changes.
• Automate hosting processes, including deployment, inventory, security scanning, and service-level reporting.

Experience and qualifications

• Strong hands-on server-hosting or data-center infrastructure experience; Cisco UCS blade management is ideal.
• Hands-on storage or SAN deployment experience; EMC Unity, Data Domain, or Avamar experience is ideal.
• Hands-on Cisco and F5 networking deployment and management, including Nexus, ASA, F5 LTM, DNS load balancing, route domains, and contexts.
• Hands-on VMware deployment and management experience.
• Hands-on Linux deployment and management, including RHEL 7.x; Windows domain and Active Directory management experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and scripting skills; PowerShell, Puppet, Ansible, and Python are listed as automation technologies.
• Nagios or Cacti monitoring knowledge and Puppet or Red Hat Satellite configuration-management knowledge are preferred.
• ITIL knowledge, a good customer-service attitude, enthusiasm for learning complex technical skills, and ability to support and develop junior colleagues.
