HV Cable Testing Engineer

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and execute testing and commissioning activities for HV cable systems
• Perform electrical tests such as insulation resistance (IR), continuity, sheath testing, and high-voltage tests (VLF, DC, or AC withstand tests)
• Conduct diagnostic testing including Tan Delta and Partial Discharge (PD) analysis
• Interpret test results, identify faults, and recommend corrective actions
• Prepare detailed test reports and maintain accurate documentation of all testing activities
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and international standards (IEC, IEEE)
• Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, and clients during testing and commissioning phases
• Supervise technicians and ensure proper use and calibration of testing equipment
• Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 3 years of experience in HV cable testing and commissioning
• Strong knowledge of HV cable systems, accessories, and testing procedures
• Familiarity with international standards such as IEC and IEEE
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills

• Experience with testing equipment (e.g., VLF test sets, PD detectors, Tan Delta equipment)
• Certification or training in HV testing and safety procedures
• Experience working on substations, transmission, or large infrastructure projects
• Good communication and reporting skills

Working Conditions

• Site-based role with potential travel depending on project requirements
• May require working extended hours or shifts during testing and commissioning phases
• Work involves high-voltage environments; strict adherence to safety procedures is mandatory
