Head of Information Technology

About This Role

We’re working with an exciting semi-government start-up in Abu Dhabi looking to hire a Head of IT to build and lead their technology function.

This is an initial, standalone, hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, thrives in a start-up environment, and is confident operating at both strategic and operational levels.

The Role

Reporting directly to the COO, you’ll take full responsibility for the IT function, acting as a trusted business partner to senior leadership while also rolling up your sleeves to deliver day-to-day operations.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Setting and delivering the IT strategy, aligned to business goals
• Building and managing the entire IT infrastructure (systems, networks, security)
• Acting as the key technology advisor to leadership and stakeholders
• Managing vendors, contracts, and third-party providers
• Supporting a key university partnership, including IT advisory and governance
• Ensuring smooth, efficient day-to-day IT operations across the business
• This is a high-impact role where you’ll shape the IT landscape from day one.

Requirements:

• 12–15 years’ experience in IT, with at least 5 years leading an IT function
• Strong UAE experience is essential
• Background in start-ups or building functions from scratch is highly preferred
• A hands-on leader who can operate strategically but isn’t afraid to get involved in the details
• Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills
• Experience managing vendors, contracts, and IT budgets
• Solid technical grounding in infrastructure, systems, and security
• Excellent English communication skills (Arabic desirable)
