Head of Engineering - Tech Startup

Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the company's engineering vision and technical strategy.
• Lead, mentor, and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering team across multiple locations.
• Drive engineering excellence, delivery quality, and operational effectiveness across all products and platforms.
• Establish modern software development practices, CI/CD processes, testing frameworks, monitoring, and observability standards.
• Partner closely with Product and Design leadership to deliver customer-centric solutions and measurable business outcomes.
• Lead architectural decisions across web, mobile, backend, AI, and data platforms.
• Build and mature AI and automation capabilities, including agentic AI systems and intelligent workflow automation.
• Improve engineering productivity, release cadence, system reliability, and security posture.
• Develop strong technical leadership within the organization through coaching, succession planning, and selective hiring.
• Act as the senior technical voice within the leadership team, providing guidance on technology investments, risk management, scalability, and innovation.

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years leading engineering teams.
• Previous experience as a Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, CTO, Co-Founder, or equivalent senior technology leadership role.
• Proven track record of scaling engineering organizations in high-growth startup, scale-up, or technology-driven environments.
• Strong hands-on technical background with the ability to review architecture, contribute to technical discussions, and guide engineering direction.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams across product, design, engineering, and data functions.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud technologies, distributed systems, and engineering best practices.
• Experience building products in fast-paced environments where reliability, speed, and customer experience are critical.
• Demonstrated success improving software delivery processes, engineering culture, and operational maturity.

Highly Desirable

• Production experience with AI-powered products, LLM applications, agentic AI systems, or intelligent automation platforms.
• Experience working within SaaS, platform businesses, marketplaces, CRM ecosystems, or transaction-heavy environments.
• Exposure to data infrastructure, analytics platforms, and AI-driven product development.
• Startup founder or early-stage leadership experience.
• Experience managing distributed engineering teams.
