Role overview

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with attested certificate required.
• Minimum three years of general underwriting experience required; attested experience certificate preferred.
• Insurance brokerage or insurer underwriting department experience preferred.
• Knowledge of underwriting principles across multiple lines, including property, casualty, marine, or motor.
• Familiarity with risk assessment, policy wording, and pricing methodologies.
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and underwrite applications across property, casualty, motor, and liability lines.
• Analyze risk exposures and documentation to determine underwriting decisions and premium rates.
• Negotiate terms with insurers, clarify risk details, and negotiate conditions on behalf of clients.
• Ensure underwriting meets internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry practices.
• Monitor insurance products, market trends, competitor offerings, and emerging risks.
• Support claims teams with complex or disputed claims involving underwriting decisions.
• Build relationships with insurers, clients, brokers, and internal teams.
• Monitor underwriting compliance, including AML rules, and conduct KYC due diligence to verify clients and identify potential financial crime risks.
