Job Purpose
Ensure drilling and completion fluids activities comply with operational, HSE, environmental, and quality standards.
Oversee fluids programs and coordinate SNOC drilling teams, service companies, and vendors to optimize well performance, reduce costs, and minimize non-productive time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement drilling fluids programs and coordinate fluids, cementing, solids-control, and waste-management activities.
- Prepare scopes of work, support tenders and technical evaluations, assess vendors, and participate in technical negotiations.
- Monitor operational performance, costs, KPIs, non-productive time, inventories, deliveries, and wellsite consumption.
- Interpret test results and recommend solutions for losses, contamination, hole-cleaning issues, shale instability, stuck pipe, and other drilling challenges.
- Support cementing operations and supervise Liquid Mud Plant activities, laboratory testing, calibration, and operational optimization.
- Manage wellsite fluids personnel, communicate operational risks, mentor staff, and support continuous improvement and HSE performance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline; a three-year Earth Sciences diploma or equivalent may be considered.
- At least 12 years of industry experience in drilling fluids, solids control, and waste management, including UAE experience.
- At least two years in remote drilling locations involving H₂S risks and mud densities above 14 ppg.
- Strong experience with SOBM, HPWBM, tight-filtrate non-aqueous fluids, polymer-based WBM, completion fluids, and cementing.
- Experience managing total losses, stuck pipe, reaming, back reaming, hole instability, geomechanical stresses, and MPD drilling.
- International MPD and severe-to-total losses experience is preferred; direct SNOC experience is advantageous.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of drilling fluids chemistry, solids calculations, rheology, hydraulics, and hole-cleaning principles.
- Knowledge of cement slurry design, laboratory testing, cement additives, cementing operations, well control, loss circulation, and MPD.
- Experience with PPA or Sand Bed Testing, solids-control equipment, waste-management systems, and compliant disposal methods.
- Proficiency in MI-SWACO ONETRAX ECCP, VCCP hydraulic simulations, and OPTIBRIDGE is preferred.
- Ability to analyze OpenWells or equivalent reporting data, manage Liquid Mud Plant inventories, and use Microsoft Office.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, reporting, analytical, problem-solving, leadership, mentoring, and vendor-management capabilities.
Work Environment
- The role supports remote drilling locations and wellsite operations, including H₂S-risk environments and critical activities outside normal working hours.
HSE Responsibilities
