Role Purpose

Lead day-to-day FTJV ground-magnetic survey operations so crews execute approved plans safely, efficiently, and to required technical quality.

Combine field leadership with hands-on magnetometer acquisition, positioning, QA/QC, and data-processing capability.

Develop Senior Crew Leads and Crew Leads through practical training, coaching, and performance oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan daily and weekly survey work, line and station assignments, and crew priorities; track progress and adjust for terrain, access, equipment, or data-quality constraints.
  • Lead crews and support GEM Systems GSM-19 v9.0 Overhauser magnetometer setup, walking acquisition, console use, troubleshooting, and safe handling.
  • Oversee QA/QC for completeness, continuity, positioning, noise, spikes, gaps, and repeat-survey decisions.
  • Transfer, validate, organize, back up, and process daily data in GEMLink+ or approved software, including diurnal correction, profiling, line-path review, and basic mapping or modeling as needed.
  • Manage GPS/GNSS navigation and positioning, including coordinate and line guidance and configured SBAS, DGPS, or RTK workflows.
  • Train and coach crew leads and field personnel on acquisition, equipment, positioning, QA/QC, data workflow, troubleshooting, and safe work.
  • Coordinate with Field Operations and HSE; conduct pre-start/toolbox coordination and support HSE leadership, journey management, heat controls, and emergency readiness.
  • Report daily on coverage, repeats, QA/QC, equipment, safety, productivity, and the next-day plan.

Required Experience and Competencies

  • At least 5 years of ground-magnetics experience covering deployment/acquisition, QA/QC, and magnetic data processing.
  • Hands-on magnetometer experience; GEM Systems GSM-19/Overhauser experience strongly preferred.
  • Practical GPS/GNSS survey-navigation experience; SBAS/DGPS/RTK familiarity desirable.
  • GEMLink+ or comparable software experience for data transfer, diurnal correction, profiling, and basic mapping/modeling strongly desirable.
  • Experience supervising field crews and turning survey plans into safe, achievable daily programs.
  • Knowledge of remote-field HSE, hazard identification, toolbox meetings, journey management, and emergency response.
  • A degree/diploma in Geophysics, Geology, Surveying/Geomatics, Earth Sciences, Engineering, or related discipline is preferred; equivalent field experience may be considered.
  • Strong leadership, training, problem-solving, reporting, and data-integrity skills; remote desert/GCC experience is an advantage.
  • Must be medically fit and willing to work hands-on in remote desert field conditions.
