Field Welding Engineer - Night Shift

In this role, you will lead, implement, and maintain global construction field welding programs and provide specialized welding engineering support. You will manage, inspect, and monitor the welding test lab, the rod room, the weld heat treatment program, and the laboratory quality plan. Your technical advice will help ensure defects, behaviors, and other issues are rectified prior to final inspection. #LI-BH1 Major Responsibilities: Coordinates work activities for Project Field Engineer and the Lead Field Welding engineer in implementing the site welding program on large projects. Implements and maintains Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations. Provides technical assistance to field superintendents and crafts. Ensures that all supervision and craft personnel involved in welding operations are educated and aware of applicable code and project requirements. Provides welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures. Provides technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items. Coordinates pre- and post-weld heat treatment program whether self- performed by Bechtel or subcontracted. Coordinates rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements. Assists in the management of the NDE subcontract, including scheduling and coordination between construction and subcontractor. Coordinates the welder qualification lab to ensure high quality welders are being employed. Works with craft to maintain welding documentation and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program. Supports the field inspections of welding work to ensure workmanship and materials are in conformance with project requirements. Advises on recertification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection. Implements the project quality control program for welding. Responsible for the requisitioning and set up of the welding consumables program. Assists field procurement in inspection and receipt of welding materials. Implements weld inspection tracking system using TEAMWorks/WITS applications. May be responsible for the implementation and coordination of subcontractors and direct hire Pre/PWHT program. Additional Responsibilities: Working knowledge of mechanical/piping engineering principles in the design and installation of structures, systems, and components. Strong ability to read, understand and interpret structural/mechanical/piping/electrical construction drawings. Technical knowledge of a specialized engineering discipline, cost, scheduling and contracts administration relating to the construction of heavy industrial or commercial complexes. Strong understanding of module assembly, completion walk-downs, testing, punch list management, turn over packages and routine interface with Start-Up. Knowledge of requirements for Lock Out Tag Out for safety. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Candidates should be self-starters, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment. Knowledge of current design Knowledge of current codes and standards such as AMSE, API, AWS, and NFPA. Knowledge of welding technical and practical applications such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW STT. Knowledge of Preheat/Post Weld Heat Treatments, equipment, and consumables. Excellent oral and written communication skills. A sound knowledge base of environmental, safety and health compliance standards required on government projects. Ability to provide clear and precise verbal and written communications with design engineers in order to assist with the project review. Mechanical/Piping system construction installation and inspection experience. Required Knowledge and Skills: (Cont) Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel standards. Working knowledge of Bechtel Construction automation systems (e.g., TeamWorks, InfoWorks, WITS, etc). Ability to interface with diverse construction disciplines as well as all levels of management. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Word, Excel, Teams, etc. Working knowledge of Bechtel standard programs used on Bechtel EPC projects is preferred (e.g., SmartPlant design tools, Digital Supply Chain, Synchro 4D, Navisworks, xFighters, PowerBI, BookBuilder, SetRoute, Construction Unifier, and EQMS). Recent Bechtel experience as a Welding/Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer or Lead Welding/Mechanical/Piping Field Engineer at a large EPC Project. Working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Processes Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard application Programs (BSAPs) utilized by Construction Additional Information: Night Shift position but must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to split shift.
