Job Summary
A Printing Press Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for printing jobs by analyzing customer specifications, production requirements, materials, labor, and machine costs.
The role involves coordinating with sales, production, purchasing, and clients to ensure competitive pricing while maintaining profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer inquiries, artwork specifications, and printing requirements.
- Calculate costs for paper, ink, plates, finishing, packaging, and other materials.
- Estimate labor, machine time, outsourcing, and overhead costs.
- Prepare detailed quotations and cost sheets for customers.
- Coordinate with production and purchasing departments to obtain current material and vendor pricing.
- Evaluate job feasibility and recommend cost-effective production methods.
- Follow up on quotations and assist the sales team with pricing-related inquiries.
- Maintain records of estimates, quotations, and job costing data.
- Monitor actual production costs and compare them with estimates to improve future accuracy.
- Stay updated on printing technologies, materials, and market pricing trends.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Printing Technology, Graphic Arts, Production Management, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in print estimating, print production, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of offset, digital, and large-format printing processes.
- Knowledge of paper grades, inks, finishing, binding, and packaging processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating/MIS software.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
