Operational responsibilities
- Administer tender documents, including stamping and filing; operate estimation software and update tendering logs.
- Prepare basic rate build-ups, visualize drawings, and conceptualize them in 3D.
- Generate and follow up on RFIs and RFQs; prepare item-level comparison sheets.
- Break down tender scope, distinguish scope components, calculate quantities, and provide accurate unit rates.
- Understand the components of full tender documents and the sequence of project construction.
- Suggest reasonable supplier or subcontractor discounts for manager approval.
- Help develop strategies to expedite tendering from quantity surveying through completion of estimation sheets.
- Manage tender documents and RFI/RFQ processes for one or two full tenders.
- Verify scope, quantities, and rates for an estimate and authorize credible comparison sheets for a tender.
- Demonstrate knowledge of completing a BOQ and provide information for Chief or Senior Estimator tender review packs.
- Translate value-analysis studies into value engineering for a tender.
- Identify conflicts between drawings, specifications, and BOQs, and flag critical items needing Operations support to the Chief Estimator.
Role requirements
- Understand the components of a complete tender document and construction project sequencing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of completing a BOQ.
- Be able to visualize drawings and conceptualize them in 3D.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, and BOQs.
- Provide accurate scope breakdowns, quantities, and unit rates.
