Role overview

Skills and experience

• Requires 3–5 years of construction management or civil engineering experience.
• Requires computer proficiency, including Excel and other Microsoft Office programs, and strong computerized estimating skills.
• Requires construction math, blueprint reading, estimating spreadsheet knowledge, and basic-to-intermediate scheduling skills.
• Requires regular CRM use, basic knowledge of the sales process, and strong written and verbal communication.
• Estimating software experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and quantify scope and prepare conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates.
• Calculate take-offs, material prices, labor and equipment costs; organize bid items, estimate sheets, quotes, and subcontractor comparisons.
• Ensure timely, accurate pricing for materials and subcontracts; participate in change orders and assist project managers.
• Resolve cost discrepancies, review design options, and recommend solutions considering cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
• Research historical purchasing, subcontract, and productivity data to inform future estimates.
• Develop basic proposals, create preliminary CPM schedules, and negotiate scope and deadlines with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify customer opportunities, build client relationships, and support marketing and business development.

Additional qualifications

• Must be able to read contract specifications and requirements and evaluate specification requirements for estimates of low to moderate complexity.
• Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and wear a respirator when required at specific jobsites.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 25 pounds without assistance and operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
• Must be able to use a computer, small handheld power tools, and office equipment, and communicate orally with detailed information.

• Wear required personal protective equipment when visiting a jobsite or shop; estimate safety needs such as access, fall protection, PPE, and special training or certifications.
