If so, we have just the opportunity for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Birmingham City Council's expanding Environmental Health team.

As one of the largest local authorities in the UK, Birmingham offers a unique and varied working environment, providing excellent opportunities for professional development alongside a challenging and rewarding workload.

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will:

  • Serve notices and taking enforcement action
  • Present evidence in court where required
  • Provide professional advice to residents, businesses and partner organisations
  • Manage your own workload to meet service targets

As an authorised officer, you will be responsible for undertaking investigations, conducting inspections and enforcing a wide range of statutory provisions aimed at protecting and improving public health and the local environment.

What you'll need...

We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, passionate and committed to delivering excellent Environmental Health services.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and practical experience in the enforcement of Environmental Health legislation.

  • Ability to meet the relevant qualification and competency requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice (England)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Business travel within Birmingham is required, with mileage reimbursement provided.

A note on qualifications – these are prescribed in the Food Law Code of Practice (FLCoP) and there is no flexibility to deviate from this.

You will be required to demonstrate that you have a suitable qualification as prescribed in sections 3.2.3.1 and 3.2.3.2 of the FLCoP.

Alternatives can only be accepted if you are able to demonstrate equivalency in writing in line with section 3.2.3.5 of the FLCoP and this is submitted with your application.

Where you are ‘working towards’ your qualification your CV needs to be explicit in the stage you are currently at and the timeline for completion.
