About the Company

The Manager, Environment Health and Safety is responsible for planning, managing and providing site safety and safety leadership, ensuring facility compliance with corporate safety and security standards.

Also responsible to ensure that workplace risks are properly controlled, and impacts on the environment are minimized, in order to improve safety performance, policies and procedures in alignment with governmental regulations.

Contribute to the development of the Department's strategy, as well as annual business plans.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the Department's policies and procedures, in line with the overall business objectives of the University, ensuring they promote leading practices and excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and management of the Department’s budgets and report back on a timely basis to ensure that divergences are addressed promptly.
  • Oversee Khalifa University efforts to ensure students, faculty, staff and guests in all campuses are kept from harm through establishing environmental and occupational health and safety prevention programs.
  • Direct and supervise all departmental activities related to Health & Safety in accordance with the University policies and procedures.
  • Develop new environmental and occupational safety and health policies and procedures for institutional, and sustain existing and new environmental, health and safety committees, representing the diversity of the KU's campuses.
  • Establish and maintain specifications in accordance with Health & Safety standards and procedures to ensure that KU safety requirements and equipment’s conform with the approved standards at all times.
  • Direct auditing of university facilities to ensure programs are implemented and provide support to departments in the maintenance of these programs.
  • Utilize audits and quality assurance report to improve the quality of services.
  • Initiate and develop an Institution-wide sustainability program that focuses on addressing challenges like energy and water use, greenhouse gas emissions and product sourcing and to drive cost saving.
  • Coordinate with security teams to monitor access control to restricted areas and facilities, unauthorized access to university labs to prevent any uncalled-for incidents, accidents.
  • Coordinate with security teams for strict regulation to restrict the hazardous materials/substance on the University campuses, dorms and residences.
  • Oversee the provisioning of services related to the University’s security including accessibility and parking facilities for the University’s premises.
  • Maintain emergency response plans, integrates response efforts with other University departments and train staff to provide emergency response.
  • Establish and maintain the fire warden, emergency responders, and first aiders’ lists throughout campus.
  • Develop tailored training programs, and uses them to train wardens, RAs, first aiders and emergency responders to effectively assist safely in emergencies.
  • Develop the EH&S training program, extend and conduct training programs to all departments.
  • Maintain training log and issue training certifications and awards.
  • Promotes safety awareness across the University.
  • Collaborate with HR regarding training, and coordinates to incorporate safety evaluation in the employee performance evaluation process.
  • Develop and supervises staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance and directs the University emergency response to environmental and occupational safety and health issues.
  • Allocate and control spending in accordance with university guidelines and program needs.
  • Evaluate practices and identifies areas of excessive material and/or costs.
  • Serve as primary liaison with government agencies and insurance companies on University issues with respect to environmental health and occupational safety issues.
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with the different authorities having jurisdiction and consulting firms and businesses in the health and safety realm.
  • Review regulations and information on environmental and occupational health and safety issues.
  • Initiate corrective action regarding programmatic issues when necessary.
  • Oversee effective responses to requests from regulatory agencies.
  • Communicates need for new policies and procedures for Administration & Operations, deans and department chairs.
  • Ensure adherence to the University's information security policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
  • Ensure coordination with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
