Engineering Manager - Full Stack

Role overview

Delivery

• Set direction and contribute hands-on while unblocking work, managing dependencies, and delivering product and technical objectives.
• Re-scope quickly when priorities change; maintain a ready backlog, size work before commitment, and own a consistent delivery cadence.
• Align roadmaps and workstreams, enable knowledge transfer, and deliver cross-team initiatives with engineering leadership and adjacent teams.
• Coordinate written communication and handoffs across time zones with partners in Melbourne and New York.
• Agree scope, definition of done, and handoff terms with domain teams and the domain product manager before work starts.
• Improve processes, reporting, accountability, delivery predictability, and continuous improvement.

People and technology leadership

• Own team performance, development, feedback, reviews, growth plans, and career conversations.
• Coach through pairing, design review, and code review; support consistent standards and a healthy, inclusive team dynamic.
• Guide domain architecture and technical direction in line with business objectives, engineering principles, and architecture standards.
• Establish AI-first team practices, including agentic coding tools, AI-assisted review, and AI in products.
• Ensure responsible operational ownership, appropriate support, observability, and reliability for team systems.
• Assess team capabilities against roadmap needs and address gaps through hiring, training, or rotation.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of engineering team management experience; consumer or marketplace experience is ideal.
• Deep web application experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and PostgreSQL.
• At least 5 years working with HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Track record leading complex software delivery, modern agile practices, dependency management, and cross-team coordination.
• Strong understanding of software practices and architecture across one or more of cloud, web, native mobile, or data.
• Current production engineering experience with agentic AI tooling, including adoption, review standards, and quality guardrails.
• Experience in globally distributed organizations, with strong async communication across time zones.
• Demonstrated ownership of capacity planning and forecasting.
