Qualifications and credentials

  • The Engineer level requires valid registration from the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors; the Assistant Engineer level requires an Engineer-in-Training Certificate.
  • Multiple years of engineering experience and knowledge of public infrastructure planning, design, construction, inspection, and maintenance are sought.
  • Relevant experience includes public works or civil construction projects across design, permitting, procurement, construction, and closeout.
  • Knowledge of construction management, plan and contract interpretation, cost estimating, scheduling, quality assurance, and risk management is sought.
  • Applicants should be able to coordinate project parties, lead meetings, solve problems, and prepare clear technical communications.
  • Experience with federally funded or reimbursable projects, especially FEMA infrastructure repairs and hazard mitigation, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage transportation, traffic, slope-stabilization, infrastructure repair, and community infrastructure construction projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, constructability, and proposed field changes.
  • Administer construction contracts and manage contractor coordination, meetings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, payment applications, claims, and documentation.
  • Monitor project budgets and schedules, identify risks or delays, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Inspect construction sites for compliance with engineering plans, permits, safety expectations, and standards.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors, utility providers, agencies, and County departments to resolve technical and construction issues.
  • Support transportation planning, design, permitting, procurement, and delivery.
  • Support stormwater, drainage, erosion-control, and flood-mitigation planning and construction.
  • Coordinate environmental reviews and permitting with project objectives and construction schedules.
