  • The ideal candidate has one or more years of engineering experience.

Engineering and project delivery

  • Manage construction projects involving transportation facilities, traffic improvements, slope stabilization, infrastructure repairs, and community improvements.
  • Review plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, constructability, and proposed field changes.
  • Administer construction contracts, including contractor coordination, meetings, submittals, information requests, change orders, payments, claims, and documentation.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, risks, and delays; coordinate corrective actions to keep projects within approved scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Inspect construction sites for conformance with plans, specifications, permit requirements, safety expectations, and standards.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, utilities, agencies, and County departments to resolve technical and construction issues.
  • Support planning, design, permitting, procurement, and delivery of transportation improvements.
  • Support stormwater, drainage, erosion-control, and flood-mitigation projects; coordinate environmental reviews and permitting.

Ideal candidate qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering for public infrastructure planning, design, construction, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Experience managing public works or civil construction projects from design through closeout.
  • Knowledge of construction management, cost estimating, scheduling, contract administration, quality assurance, and risk management.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, technical specifications, contracts, reports, codes, and standards.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, contractors, inspectors, utility providers, agencies, and internal departments.
  • Knowledge of public infrastructure requirements for permitting, procurement, documentation, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance.
  • FEMA-related infrastructure repairs and hazard-mitigation experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, conflict-resolution, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to lead meetings and hold project partners accountable.

Schedule

  • Assistant Engineers occasionally work evenings and weekends and rarely work holidays.
