Electrical Inspector

Role and location

Inspections and document review

• Inspect road and infrastructure electrical works daily, including street lighting, LV networks, feeders, and control systems, against approved drawings, specifications, and authority requirements.
• Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, ITPs, and as-built drawings for project and authority compliance.
• Monitor street lighting poles, luminaires, control panels, feeder pillars, cabling, LV networks, earthing, bonding, protective devices, signage and tunnel lighting, and ancillary power installations.

Testing, quality, and safety

• Witness and record insulation resistance, continuity, earth resistance, and functional tests of circuits, controls, timers, photocells, and protection relays.
• Verify compliance with project specifications, IEC/BS standards, local authority regulations, and safety codes.
• Monitor contractor quality procedures and ITPs; issue inspection requests, NCRs, and corrective action requests as needed.
• Coordinate to resolve technical issues; maintain inspection and test records and prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
• Track work progress and risks with the engineering team; ensure trench safety, cable protection, isolation, and tagging.

Close-out and handover

• Assist with quantity and measurement verification and as-built data for payment certification and project close-out.
• Provide technical input for handover, prepare snag lists, and follow up on rectification and final acceptance.

Required qualifications and experience

• At least five years of relevant experience as an Electrical Inspector or similar on roads and infrastructure projects; UAE or GCC experience is preferred.
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Strong knowledge of street lighting, LV distribution, IEC/BS standards, and applicable authority regulations, including SEWA, SRTA, and Sharjah Municipality.
• Experience in site inspection, quality control, and supervision of electrical works on large-scale civil or infrastructure projects.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, cable routing layouts, and coordination drawings.
• Practical experience with electrical testing, commissioning, cable laying, jointing, termination, and panel installation inspection.
• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements for electrical works in road corridors and infrastructure.
• Good written and verbal English; competent with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desired skills

• Major infrastructure project experience in Dubai or Sharjah is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Sharjah-specific authority procedures and local utility-corridor, road-lighting, and traffic-related electrical regulations is desired.
• Familiarity with QA/QC or construction management software and digital inspection/reporting systems is an advantage.
• Coordination with multidisciplinary civil, structural, and utilities teams is desirable.
