Job Purpose
The E‑House Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within Electrical Houses (E‑Houses), ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
1. Structural Design & Calculation
- **Structural Integrity:**
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the structural design of E-House base frames, walls, roofs, and flooring systems to support heavy electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, VFDs).
- **Load Analysis:**
- validate complex structural calculations, including dead and live loads, wind, snow, seismic, and transit/lifting loads.
- **Lifting & Transportation:**
- validate lifting lugs design and CoG calculations, rigging plans, and transportation strategies for heavy, oversized modular units.
- **Code Compliance:**
- Ensure all structural designs comply with international standards (e.g., AISC, ASCE, IBC, Eurocodes) and project-specific requirements.
2. Cooling, Ventilation & HVAC Design
- **Thermal Management:**
- Perform precise heat load calculations factoring in electrical equipment heat dissipation, solar radiation, and extreme ambient temperatures.
- **System Sizing & Selection:**
- Design and specify industrial-grade HVAC systems, including DX units, chilled water systems, and redundant backup systems (N+1, N+2).
- **Pressurization & Filtration:**
- Design overpressure and ventilation systems to prevent the ingress of dust, moisture, and hazardous/corrosive gases into the E-House.
3. Fire Alarm & Suppression Systems
- **System Design:**
- Validate/Design and specify complete fire detection (smoke, heat, gas) and suppression systems suitable for live electrical environments (e.g., Clean Agent systems like NOVEC 1230, FM-200, or Inergen).
- **Integration:**
- Support in validating the control logic and cause-and-effect matrices for fire safety, including the automatic shutdown of HVAC systems and closure of motorized fire dampers during a fire event.
- **Compliance:**
- Ensure all fire alarm and suppression systems strictly adhere to NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 72, NFPA 2001) and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership & Project Execution
- **Coordination:**
- Collaborate seamlessly with Electrical, Layout, and Control engineers to ensure clash-free integration of mechanical systems with electrical panels and cable routing.
- **Vendor Management:**
- Evaluate vendor technical bids for steel fabrication, HVAC equipment, and fire safety systems.
- **Fabrication Support:**
- Resolve technical queries from the manufacturing floor and conduct mechanical inspections (FAT) prior to shipment.
- You're a great fit if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Fluent Written and Verbal English and Arabic
- 6-8 Years' of progressive engineering experience, with at least
- 5 years
- specifically dedicated to the design of E-Houses, Packaged Substations, or offshore modular enclosures.
- Strong knowledge of 3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks or Revit).
- Experience with heat load calculation software (e.g., Carrier
Hap
- , Trane TRACE).
- Deep knowledge of international codes including AISC, ASCE, AWS, ASHRAE, and NFPA.
- Expertise in steel structures, protective coating systems (C4/C5 environments), and insulation materials.
