Drilling Fluids Specialist / Mud Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Support daily field execution, drilling-fluid programs, well operation planning, best practices, and technical solutions; coordinate with petroleum engineers and the Operations Manager.
• Work on onshore and offshore rigs with water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based drilling fluids, workover and completion fluids, solids control, and waste management.
• Prepare end-of-well reports and pre- and post-well analyses, recommending improvements for future wells.
• Manage daily mud-running specifications, testing, logistics, inventory, and communication with drilling and well-services personnel.
• Maintain drilling and completion fluid performance and provide technical and operational support for fluid products.
• Maintain rig-site product inventory and mud laboratory equipment functionality, maintenance, and inventory.
• Track operational progress and billing support; interpret engineering software and daily drilling reports; monitor well costs against proposals.
• Prepare and condition fluid systems, test fluid properties, and verify, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment at least every 15 days while in field use.
• Formulate fluid systems, maintain fluid parameters, mitigate drilling problems, and recommend technical solutions and treatments.
• Complete daily fluid, inventory, volume, concentration, solids-control, and end-of-well reports; communicate fluid conditions and recommendations to customers and petroleum engineers.
• Monitor fluid displacement during cement jobs and maintain quality, environmental, QH&S, compliance, governance, product-quality, safety, and sustainability practices.

Qualifications and experience

• 5–8 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Specialist or Mud Engineer.
• Knowledge of chemistry, drilling and completion fluids, drilling waste management, and solids control.
• Completed mud school or passed the PPC equivalency mud school exam.
• GCC experience is required; UAE experience is preferred.
• Offshore operations experience is highly preferred.
• A petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering bachelor's degree is preferred, or an equivalent technical science qualification with sufficient senior field experience, relevant training, and competency.
