Role overview

Lead systems engineering activities across an established satellite communications business undergoing technical development and investment.

Coordinate systems engineering, satellite operations, architecture, and programme delivery across multidisciplinary teams.

A major satellite programme is underway, providing immediate ownership of systems engineering activities.

Systems engineering and integration

  • Coordinate systems engineering across technical disciplines and provide oversight of satellite architectures, integration, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate technical approaches and alternatives; lead system-level troubleshooting and root-cause work.
  • Work with manufacturers, suppliers, and integration partners to meet operational and business requirements.

Programme delivery and readiness

  • Coordinate programme workstreams, integration requirements, and operational preparation across internal teams and external partners.
  • Ensure teams have appropriate knowledge, training, processes, and procedures for new technologies.
  • Develop operational concepts, procedures, and disaster recovery arrangements; integrate system considerations across delivery and operational transition.

Technology and governance

  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and evaluate emerging technologies for satellite operations and network architecture.
  • Assess GEO, MEO, and LEO architectures and integration with terrestrial networks and 5G.
  • Review engineering processes, policies, and procedures; improve collaboration, readiness, change management, and engineering standards.

Experience and capabilities

  • Extensive experience in satellite communications, systems engineering, or a related space-sector environment.
  • Direct spacecraft operations experience and understanding of satellite systems, ground infrastructure, and supporting technologies.
  • Experience across technical disciplines, system-level dependencies, and coordination of specialist teams.
  • Exposure to satellite design, architecture, integration, testing, or operational transition.
  • Experience with manufacturers, systems integrators, programme teams, and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management capabilities; able to challenge approaches and guide decisions.
  • Able to operate across multicultural, multidisciplinary environments, balancing strategic thinking with practical execution.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • A relevant master's degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, satellite communications, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience with AI, cloud-based systems, software-defined architectures, and emerging satellite technologies is advantageous.
