Director-Design Data Center

Role purpose

Key accountabilities

• Lead electrical design strategy and governance for power distribution, transformers, generators, UPS, switchgear, ATS/STS, busways, grounding, lighting, small power, EPMS, and ELV systems.
• Review design calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, equipment selections, studies, and technical submissions for compliance and quality.
• Manage consultants, contractors, and specialist vendors to deliver approved scope, budget, programme, and technical quality.
• Optimize redundancy, reliability, resilience, energy efficiency, capacity, power quality, maintainability, lifecycle cost, and emerging technologies for high-density and AI data centers.
• Coordinate with mechanical, architectural, structural, civil, ICT, security, fire and life safety, operations, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee construction, testing, commissioning, and handover of electrical and ELV systems against approved design and operational requirements.
• Lead and develop the electrical engineering team, establish standards, mentor engineers, and manage resources and performance.
• Drive continuous improvement, standardization, innovation, and optimization across the data center portfolio.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.
• 15+ years of relevant experience, including significant data center, mission-critical, or other high-reliability facility experience.
• Demonstrated leadership of electrical design for large-scale, complex data center projects.
• Strong knowledge of critical electrical infrastructure and ELV systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarm, BMS/BAS, and EPMS.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, NFPA, BS/EN, local authority requirements, and relevant data center standards and guidelines.
• Experience with ETAP, AMTECH, Dialux, or equivalent; proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and relevant project tools.
• Experience in design governance, consultant management, multidisciplinary coordination, due diligence, audits, peer reviews, value engineering, risk assessment, construction support, testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and operational handover.
