Job Purpose

The Design Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the entire design process of building projects on behalf of the Project Management Consultant (PMC).

The role ensures that all design activities are delivered in accordance with the client's requirements, project schedule, budget, quality standards, and applicable codes and regulations.

Design Management

  • Manage and oversee all design activities from concept to construction documentation.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural, MEP, landscape, and specialist consultants to ensure integrated design delivery.
  • Review design submissions and ensure compliance with project requirements, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor design progress against the approved schedule and identify potential delays or risks.
  • Ensure that value engineering opportunities are identified and implemented without compromising quality or functionality.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the primary interface between the Client, design consultants, contractors, and authorities.
  • Lead design coordination meetings and ensure timely resolution of design issues.
  • Coordinate with authority agencies and support obtaining necessary approvals and permits.
  • Provide regular design status reports to the Project Director and Client.

Technical Review

  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical documents for completeness, constructability, and coordination.
  • Identify and mitigate design conflicts, discrepancies, and interface issues.
  • Ensure designs comply with local regulations, international standards, and sustainability requirements.
  • Review material submittals, RFIs, and proposed design changes during construction.

Project Controls

  • Monitor design deliverables against project milestones.
  • Support procurement and tendering activities by reviewing tender documents and technical specifications.
  • Assess the impact of design changes on cost and schedule.
  • Participate in risk management and change management processes.

Construction Support

  • Provide technical support during construction and assist in resolving design-related issues.
  • Coordinate with site supervision teams to ensure construction complies with approved designs.
  • Review shop drawings, method statements, and technical submissions as required.
  • Participate in inspections and project handover activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Professional registration or chartership (PMP, PE, CEng, RIBA, AIA, etc.) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum
  • 10 years
  • of experience in design management and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • At least
  • 5–10 years
  • in a
  • PMC/Consultancy environment
  • managing large-scale building projects.
  • Experience in high-rise, mixed-use, residential, hospitality, commercial, or public buildings.
  • Strong understanding of design processes, authority approvals, and construction practices.
  • Experience with international standards and contract forms (FIDIC) is preferred.

Skills And Competencies

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural, structural, and MEP design coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple consultants and interfaces simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, MS Office, and project management software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

  • Hotels and hospitality projects.
  • Healthcare and educational facilities.
  • Mega developments and master-planned communities.
  • Experience working with PMC organizations and international consultants.
