Role overview

Own and coordinate design delivery across data centre and critical infrastructure projects.

The role is based at the Manchester head office and includes travel to UK project and client sites and occasional travel to Europe.

The role manages and assures design outputs rather than routinely undertaking detailed engineering design or serving as the technical authority for a specialist discipline.

Design delivery

  • Manage design delivery from tender and pre-construction through development, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Maintain the design management plan, responsibilities matrix, programme, information schedules, deliverable trackers, and review processes.
  • Manage internal and external designers’ scopes, appointments, interfaces, deliverables, quality, and performance.
  • Lead design coordination and review meetings; track decisions, actions, comments, approvals, and technical queries.

Design assurance and project support

  • Coordinate and assure compliant, buildable, and commercially appropriate designs, resolving multidisciplinary interfaces.
  • Monitor progress, resources, risk, and change, escalating impacts on safety, compliance, performance, programme, cost, or procurement.
  • Support procurement, construction, site activities, commissioning, and design close-out, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Experience and qualifications

  • Relevant engineering, building services, or construction management qualification.
  • Substantial experience managing multidisciplinary design through tender, development, and construction, with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Broad M&E knowledge and confidence reviewing and challenging specialist outputs.
  • Data centre or comparable critical-environment experience is preferred.

Skills and tools

  • Strong design governance, programme management, information management, consultant coordination, assurance, risk, change, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows.
  • Chartered status is desirable.

Work location and travel

  • Based at the Manchester head office, with UK and occasional European travel.

Compensation and development

  • The vacancy offers a competitive package commensurate with qualifications and experience, professional training, and long-term career development opportunities.
