Design leadership and coordination
- Lead design delivery from concept and planning through detailed design, approvals, construction support, and completion.
- Develop design management plans, programmes, deliverable schedules, review processes, and coordination procedures.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary designers, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve integrated design solutions.
- Lead design meetings, workshops, technical reviews, client presentations, and stakeholder discussions.
- Set design responsibilities, deadlines, deliverables, approval requirements, and communication channels.
Technical delivery and controls
- Review drawings, specifications, technical documents, calculations, submissions, and deliverables for quality, completeness, compliance, and consistency.
- Monitor design progress against programmes, milestones, budgets, and requirements; identify delays and coordination issues early.
- Maintain design trackers, registers, decision and issue logs, and documentation with version control and distribution procedures.
- Coordinate design revisions, clashes, technical conflicts, missing information, constructability issues, risks, and solutions.
- Coordinate authority submissions, statutory approvals, and technical reviews.
Construction and project support
- Work with project management and construction teams to ensure design information is buildable and available when required on site.
- Support value engineering and design optimization for cost, function, constructability, sustainability, and project value.
- Review materials, systems, finishes, specifications, and technical solutions with specialists and stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical queries, requests for information, clarifications, site issues, and construction-related design changes.
- Support procurement and construction with accurate, timely drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical information.
- Attend site inspections and construction meetings to review design implementation and help resolve site issues.
Quality, reporting, and team leadership
- Monitor consultant performance and design documentation quality; implement review procedures to reduce errors, omissions, and rework.
- Assess design-related risks, variations, claims, programme impacts, and cost implications.
- Prepare design progress reports, management updates, technical presentations, and recommendations.
- Improve design processes, coordination methods, digital workflows, BIM practices, and delivery efficiency.
- Mentor design team members and support strategic design decisions, resource planning, programme management, and project delivery.
Required qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Construction, Design Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience in design management, architecture, engineering, construction, project management, or a related technical environment.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of design development, technical documentation, construction processes, design coordination, and project delivery.
- Knowledge of building regulations, technical standards, codes, authority requirements, and industry best practices.
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, technical submissions, design documentation, and consultant deliverables.
- Experience managing design programmes, deliverables, approvals, technical queries, design changes, and coordination issues.
- Knowledge of project management, risk management, value engineering, cost awareness, and programme control.
Skills and preferred qualifications
- AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D, SketchUp, or other relevant platforms are advantageous.
- BIM coordination, document control, and digital design workflows are preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, coordination, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organization, time management, attention to detail, technical quality, and ability to manage competing deadlines under pressure.
- Professional registration or relevant industry certification is advantageous where applicable.
Work requirements
- Willingness to attend project sites, design meetings, workshops, and inspections and to travel when project needs require.
