Design Director

About the role

Responsibilities

• Develop design strategies aligned with company vision and business objectives.
• Provide creative direction and innovative solutions that enhance project value and market appeal.
• Integrate design into project development strategy in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer.
• Lead and mentor the Senior Design Manager and MEP Manager; oversee design team performance and development.
• Oversee design from concept through construction documentation and delivery.
• Integrate architecture, interiors, landscape, and MEP into cohesive project designs.
• Review and approve proposals, drawings, and specifications for quality, regulatory compliance, and budget alignment.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
• Serve as the main contact for design discussions with partners and clients.
• Maintain quality, functionality, and sustainability standards; conduct regular design reviews and audits.
• Monitor design budgets and resources, and align design schedules with project timelines.
• Track industry trends, materials, best practices, and technologies that improve efficiency and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
• At least 20 years of experience in design management.
• Design Director experience with a Project Management Consultancy on residential assets.

Required skills

• Strategic thinking, creativity, and leadership to align design with organizational goals and guide multidisciplinary teams.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple design projects, timelines, and budgets.
• Knowledge of design processes, architectural principles, and MEP systems.
• Proficiency with design and project management software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp.
• Interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
