Role Summary:

The Deputy Multimedia Editor is responsible for overseeing video and audio coverage at The National, ensuring the delivery of high-quality multimedia content that elevates the publication's profile and drives digital traffic. This role supports the Multimedia Editor in managing the multimedia team and production flow, ensuring timely responses to editorial demands and the development of innovative multimedia storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Multimedia Editor by managing the multimedia team, prioritizing tasks within a busy news cycle, and handling requests from multiple editors.
• Take responsibility for the multimedia department in the absence of the Multimedia Editor.
• Shoot and edit multimedia projects swiftly and accurately, adhering to high journalistic standards.
• Manage content received from reporters in the field, prepare, and upload multimedia content that boosts The National’s digital presence.
• Review raw footage from news agencies and prepare necessary edits as required by section heads and online editors.
• Lead the multimedia team’s response to breaking news, ensuring swift and efficient coverage.
• Advocate for the integration of multimedia in editorial projects, supporting The National’s digital-first approach.
• Collaborate with multimedia producers to enhance their storytelling and technical skills.
• Work with photographers to develop their multimedia capabilities.
• Ensure effective use, maintenance, and inventory of multimedia equipment.
• Suggest and evaluate new equipment and software as necessary.
• Test updates to the CMS before they go live to maintain a seamless workflow.
• Coordinate across departments to ensure the multimedia team provides an effective video service that complements each section’s needs.
• Uphold the social, cultural, and moral standards of the UAE, aligning multimedia projects with the nation’s political and strategic direction.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in digital media, journalism, Multimedia Design or a related field.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in a similar role within a large or fast-paced media setup.
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and DSLR cameras.
• Experience video CMS platforms
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
• Strong willingness to adopt and utilize new technologies.
• Keen attention to quality and detail in multimedia production.
• Desire to mentor and develop team members' skills.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Fluency in written and spoken English
