Role description

The Data Analyst supports Centellic platform data-driven stories and editorial projects.

The role develops reports and dashboards, supports development projects, and works with cross-functional teams on reporting needs and insights.

The analyst collaborates with journalists to design effective visualizations and provide data-driven support.

Key responsibilities

  • Help teams improve their understanding of data, data analysis, and data visualization.
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, designers, and developers to plan and deliver data-driven journalism.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify newsworthy patterns, trends, and investigations.
  • Create charts, maps, dashboards, and other visualizations to make data accessible to readers.
  • Produce monthly reporting and undertake ad hoc analysis as required; support development projects.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to improve user experience and website performance.
  • Translate findings into actionable recommendations and help improve operational efficiency and growth.

Skills and experience

  • Strong data analysis skills, including Excel and data tools such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Knowledge of data journalism fundamentals, research, and fact-checking.
  • Ability to create clear visualizations using tools such as Flourish; experience with Power BI, Flourish, or other visualization tools.
  • Strong news judgment and ability to identify meaningful stories and trends in complex datasets.
  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst or in a similar analytical role.
  • Experience querying, extracting, and transforming data from varied sources; familiarity with statistical analysis and modeling.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills, including explaining complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
