Role overview

Manage credit and collection activities for an assigned portfolio of business customers.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate credit for new and existing customers using applications, financial information, references, third-party resources, and industry data.
  • Assess creditworthiness and recommend or establish limits within authority; partner with the Credit Manager on higher-volume, extended-term, or elevated-risk situations.
  • Monitor payment activity, exposure, account history, aging, and emerging risk indicators.
  • Pursue collections through phone, email, customer portals, and other methods; document commitments, disputes, and follow-up.
  • Research payments, credit memos, deductions, cash-application issues, and unearned discounts; coordinate resolution.
  • Review orders against credit guidelines, available credit, account status, payment history, and exposure; release, hold, or escalate within authority.
  • Maintain accurate credit files, customer credit and billing information, Accounts Payable contacts, and account records.
  • Coordinate with Customer Master Data and internal partners to keep ship-to, billing, invoice, and account relationships accurate.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports; communicate payment trends, collection barriers, and elevated risk to the Credit Manager.
  • Monitor credit information, maintain procedures, and support improvements to controls, efficiency, risk management, and Days Sales Outstanding.

Required qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and applicable credit, accounts receivable, reporting, customer-management systems, and customer portals.
  • Strong knowledge of credit-risk assessment, collections, account reconciliation, and receivables management.
  • Able to prioritize independently by aging, dollar exposure, payment history, order urgency, and financial risk.

Education and preferred experience

  • An associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Five or more years of commercial credit, collections, accounts receivable, or related experience is preferred.
  • Food-industry or similar high-volume experience is a plus.

Role context

Works with credit, customer service, master data, cash application, and other internal teams to resolve account issues.
