Project and role

The company is expanding its team for a large-scale mixed-use development project and seeks a Commercial Manager based in Abu Dhabi.

The role provides commercial and financial management throughout the project lifecycle, working with the client, project management team, consultants, and contractors.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead project commercial management, cost control, financial governance, and commercial performance.
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, commitments, expenditure, and cash flow; identify cost pressures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and review commercial and cost reports for senior management and client decisions.
  • Review payment applications and support payment certification according to contract requirements and verified progress.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets and forecasts, highlighting variances, trends, and commercial risks.
  • Manage changes and variations and assess their cost and commercial implications; support commercial risk and opportunity management.
  • Provide commercial input to procurement, tender evaluation, contract award, and post-contract administration.
  • Support value engineering and cost optimization while maintaining quality, scope, and programme objectives.
  • Coordinate with contracts, cost, project controls, and project management teams; assess claims and contractual matters, including FIDIC-based contracts where applicable.
  • Maintain commercial records, participate in client and stakeholder meetings, provide advice, and support project close-out, final accounts, and commercial documentation.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • A master’s degree in Commercial Management, Construction Law, or a related discipline is preferred; relevant experience may substitute for postgraduate studies.
  • PMP certification and FIDIC training are advantages; practical experience with FIDIC-based contracts is emphasized over certification.
  • Cost management and/or value engineering qualifications or training are preferred.
  • Minimum 12–15+ years of relevant experience and a strong record in commercial and cost management on major construction or development projects.
  • PMC or consultancy experience is preferred; strong commercial experience with a Tier 1 Contractor is an alternative. Major developer/client experience is an advantage.
  • Strong background in cost control, budgeting, forecasting, payment certification, commercial reporting, contract administration, change management, variations, claims, and project cost control.
  • Client-facing experience and confidence advising senior stakeholders; experience on infrastructure, residential, shopping mall, hotel, resort, marine, or mixed-use projects.
