About Sitemate
Sitemate builds software and AI agents for construction, infrastructure, and industrial companies.
Products include Storm, Dashpivot, Gearbelt, Flowsite, and the Sitemate mobile app.
The company has teams and entities across Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada.
Scope and responsibilities
- Own the engineering delivery system, engineering organization, and engineering operating cadence.
- Develop engineering structure, career tracks, levels, compensation architecture, and hiring standards.
- Partner with the CEO, Chief Product Officer, Staff Engineers, Tech Leads, engineering function leads, Operations, GTM, and Marketing.
- Personally review code, ship with the team, run weekly delivery-constraint reviews, and plan quarterly engineering initiatives.
- Coach Staff Engineers and Tech Leads, make platform and AI-stack decisions, and represent engineering to company leaders, the board, customers, and candidates.
Delivery and technical priorities
- Increase production throughput from AI-assisted engineering while maintaining quality.
- Decouple deployment from release using feature flags, staged rollouts, rapid rollback, and trunk-based development across web and mobile.
- Unify verification with strict typing, schema contracts, QA embedded in releases, and security testing above compliance minimums.
- Make records safe for concurrent updates by people and agents through field-level saves, conflict detection, live sync, and change attribution.
- Shape how engineers work closer to customers and coordinate handoffs with Product and GTM.
Who this role is for
- Has led engineering through a high-growth, high-change period; experience with a scale-up transition and changed software-building practices is ideal.
- Has direct experience with AI-assisted or agentic code review and delivery tooling, and current views on its limitations.
- Has hands-on technical depth, a clear engineering organization and ownership perspective, and experience developing Staff Engineers or technical leads.
- Can diagnose delivery constraints, compress timelines, and avoid adopting process or tooling without purpose.
- Can bridge engineering and executive leadership, including board exposure.
- The company values in-person, embedded leadership and early communication of difficult truths.
Required technical skills and tools
- Must be able to diagnose and remove bottlenecks across code review, deployment, and quality.
- Must have direct experience with agentic delivery infrastructure, such as sandboxes, evaluation harnesses, deterministic gates, or AI-assisted review.
- Required tools include TypeScript / JavaScript, Node.js, React or Angular, MongoDB, and AWS or a comparable cloud platform.
Bonus tools
- React Native / mobile, observability tools such as HyperDX, Datadog, Bugsnag, or Sentry, infrastructure as code such as CDK or Terraform, and feature-flag or release-engineering platforms are bonuses.
Success measures
Within 90 days, ship code in each main product repository, identify delivery, reliability, or quality constraints, and own relevant delivery-system initiatives.
Within six months, increase production changes shipped per engineer without increasing production defects, launch release-engineering rails, measure production defects, and make a hire and leadership decision that raise the bar.
Within 12 months, enable strict typing and schema contracts across products, run QA within releases with an agent-surface evaluation harness, and design review capacity and validation into agent workflows.
Life at Sitemate
- Monthly all-hands share company metrics, hiring plans, and financial performance; levels, career frameworks, and pay ranges are visible to employees.
- Leadership is player-coach at every level, including the executive team.
- The company has a Melbourne engineering hub and offers equity and 20 days annual leave.
