Overview
We are seeking a business-oriented Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to lead the overall risk management function for our Dubai entity.
This role focuses on end-to-end risk management across trading, financial crime, and product risk — ensuring the company operates within its defined risk appetite while actively supporting business growth.
Unlike traditional compliance-heavy roles, this position is about risk ownership: identifying exposures, calibrating tolerance, and driving real-time control execution.
We're looking for someone who understands that well-designed risk frameworks are a business enabler, not a brake.
We welcome candidates with a strong crypto or digital asset background.
We are equally open to risk leaders from traditional financial institutions, capital markets, or payments companies who bring deep, transferable expertise and a genuine appetite to operate in a more dynamic, high-growth environment.
Candidates must be currently based in the UAE.
We are not able to support relocation for this position.
What You'll Do
- Establish and lead the company's enterprise-wide risk management framework, covering trading and market risk, product risk, and operational risk
- Define, review, and continuously optimise the risk appetite framework in alignment with overall business strategy
- Monitor risk activities to ensure alignment with internal risk policies, business objectives, and applicable regulatory expectations including the VARA framework
- Partner with senior leadership and the Board to embed risk-informed thinking into strategic decision-making
- Build and enhance risk control mechanisms across: transaction monitoring and risk indicators, market surveillance controls, and product risk assessment frameworks
- Identify and stay ahead of emerging risks in trading, product design, and operations, and lead mitigation strategies
- Strengthen internal control systems and drive effective risk governance across functions
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in risk management within financial institutions, capital markets, fintech, or payments companies
- Crypto / digital asset experience is strongly preferred; candidates from TradFi or payments backgrounds with a clear motivation to move into the digital asset space are equally welcome
- Meaningful exposure to trading-related risks, financial crime risk, and product or operational risk management
- Experience operating at or reporting to C-suite / Board level on risk matters
Core Competencies
- Deep understanding of risk management frameworks, risk appetite design, and internal governance structures
- Hands-on track record of designing and implementing risk frameworks in complex, fast-moving environments — not just advising on them
- Strong knowledge of market surveillance, transaction risk controls, and AML-related risk from a risk management (rather than purely compliance) perspective
- Ability to operate commercially — balancing risk discipline with business pragmatism
Technical & Functional Skills
- Familiarity with risk systems, trading surveillance tools, or real-time risk monitoring platforms
- Comfort working across quantitative and qualitative risk disciplines
- Ability to translate risk frameworks into practical system or product-level controls, ideally in collaboration with engineering or product teams
- Nice to Have
- Direct experience at a crypto exchange, trading platform, or high-frequency / algorithmic trading environment
- Exposure to UAE regulatory environment, particularly VARA
- Experience contributing to risk infrastructure build-outs in a scaling or newly regulated entity
- Background working embedded with product or tech teams on risk control implementation
