Role Description
- A Chief Officer (Offshore), or Chief Mate, is the second-in-command on an offshore vessel, responsible for managing deck operations, cargo handling, and vessel stability while supporting the Captain. They supervise crew, ensure safety compliance, oversee maintenance of deck equipment, and handle essential documentation, requiring strong leadership skills and relevant maritime certifications.
Qualifications
- Chief Mate Certificate of Competency (CoC
- STCW certification (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping)
• Basic Safety Training (BST)
- Advanced Fire Fighting certificate
- Medical First Aid certification
- Several years of sea experience (usually as a 2nd Officer)
- Strong knowledge of ship stability and cargo operations
- Good leadership and communication skills
