Job Description

The Chief Engineer Operation is responsible for leading all engineering project planning, coordination, and execution at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi.

This role acts as a vital bridge between resort Engineering Operations and the Ownership’s Projects Department, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and without disrupting guest satisfaction or operational excellence.

The role demands a high level of technical expertise, project management acumen, and a strong commitment to quality assurance and technological innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Specifically, as the Chief Engineer - Operations for Waldorf Astoria Maldives you will perform the following tasks to the highest standards:
  • Lead all CAPEX, owner-funded, and special projects under the Operations portfolio.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and coordinate tendering and bid evaluation processes.
  • Conduct technical comparisons of proposals and support procurement negotiations and approvals.
  • Develop project schedules and obtain management approvals for project execution.
  • Train engineering team members on project execution, new equipment, and system installations.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with vendors, contractors, and engineering teams.
  • Develop and implement SOPs for newly installed equipment and systems.
  • Prepare commissioning reports and ensure successful handover to Operations.
  • Conduct regular project coordination meetings with Operations, HODs, and stakeholders.
  • Provide weekly project progress updates and recommendations to management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, energy conservation, and sustainability.
  • Analyze guest feedback and operational requirements to align project outcomes with guest expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, fire life safety requirements, Hilton policies, and FORBES standards.
  • Review and enhance SOPs, processes, and engineering practices to improve performance and reliability.
  • Perform quality audits and inspections throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor contractor, supplier, and vendor performance to ensure quality project delivery.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives through Kaizen and Lean methodologies.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies, smart systems, and sustainable solutions, including support for Hilton LightStay initiatives.
  • Coordinate closely with Finance, Procurement, Ownership representatives, and internal stakeholders on project approvals and execution.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, conduct technical reviews, and ensure engineering teams are trained on safety, maintenance, and operational best practices.

  • The Chief Engineer - Operations serving Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members.
  • To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviors, skills, and values that follow:
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role managing large-scale hospitality or resort projects.
  • Proven expertise in planning and executing CAPEX projects within luxury hotel or resort environments.
  • Experience working with international hospitality brands and compliance with brand and quality standards such as Hilton and Forbes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, MEP, BMS, CMMS, and energy management systems.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing vendors, contractors, procurement processes, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent project management, planning, and organizational skills with the ability to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership abilities, including training and development of engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and sustainability initiatives, with a focus on energy conservation and continuous improvement
