Chief Accountant

About This Role
The Chief Accountant will oversee the full spectrum of accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with local regulations, and effective financial control. Preference will be given to candidates with strong experience in the import/trading industry, including handling customs, logistics costs, and international transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, GL, and payroll
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting
- Handle import-related financial activities such as: Letters of Credit (LC), Bills of Lading (BL)
- Customs duty and clearing expenses
- Reconcile supplier accounts, especially international vendors
- Ensure proper accounting of freight, insurance, and landed costs
- Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams for import documentation and costing
- Ensure compliance with UAE VAT regulations and prepare VAT returns
- Liaise with auditors, banks, and regulatory authorities
- Implement and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
- Oversee inventory accounting and stock reconciliation
- Provide financial insights and reports to management for decision-making
Job Requirements:
- Masters Degree in Accounting, or Finance,
- Professional certification (CA / ACCA / CPA) preferred
- Minimum 8–12 years of accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior role
- Mandatory experience in import/trading industry.
- Strong knowledge of: International trade finance, UAE VAT laws, Costing and inventory management
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Tally, ERP systems)
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills
