Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on and passionate **Ceramics Technician** to support the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and delivery of our ceramics studio.

This role plays a key part in ensuring a safe, efficient, and inspiring environment for makers while supporting educational programs, studio users, and community engagement activities.

Working closely with the **Ceramics Consultant**, you will assist in managing studio operations, kiln firing processes, materials, equipment maintenance, workshops, and member support.

Studio Operations & Technical Management

  • Manage daily studio operations, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness.
  • Oversee kiln scheduling, loading, firing, and unloading processes.
  • Maintain firing logs and documentation of kiln usage.
  • Monitor and manage clay, glazes, tools, and studio consumables.
  • Maintain inventory records and stock levels.
  • Prepare and recycle clay, manage reclaim processes, and ensure material readiness.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs when required.
  • Support studio setup and reset for daily activities, workshops, and programs.

Kiln & Firing Management

  • Execute firing schedules in coordination with the Ceramics Consultant.
  • Prepare, load, monitor, and unload kilns according to technical standards.
  • Ensure proper handling and firing of ceramic works.
  • Advise users on firing processes, risks, and best practices.
  • Minimize material waste and optimize kiln loads.

Educational Support

  • Support the delivery of ceramics workshops and classes.
  • Facilitate introductory and beginner-level ceramics sessions.
  • Assist with preparing teaching materials, samples, demonstrations, and studio setups.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to participants during sessions.

Community Engagement & Member Support

  • Provide day-to-day support to ceramics studio members.
  • Guide users on the safe and proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist members in troubleshooting technical challenges.
  • Foster a welcoming, collaborative, and respectful studio environment.
  • Escalate complex technical or creative queries to the Ceramics Consultant when required.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Monitor the safe use of studio equipment and materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shared spaces.
  • Support the enforcement of studio policies and guidelines.

Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Track studio usage and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Provide feedback on community needs and studio performance.
  • Support the development of new ceramics programs, workshops, and initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Ceramics, Fine Arts, Design, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in a ceramics studio or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of clay bodies, glazing techniques, and firing processes.
  • Experience operating and maintaining kilns and studio equipment.
  • Workshop facilitation or teaching experience is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills in English; Arabic is a plus.
