Assistant Store Manager
Role Overview
For over a century, our Paints & Coatings brands have helped shape the homes, buildings, and infrastructure that define Australia and New Zealand. From protecting iconic landmarks to adding colour to everyday spaces, our work makes a lasting impact.
Proudly part of the DuluxGroup and home to some of the region’s most trusted and beloved brands including Dulux, Berger, Acratex, British Paints, and Porter’s Paints - you’ll be joining a team of passionate people globally who are proud to create, innovate, and lead.
We’re consistently recognised as one of ANZ’s most trusted brands, and we’re committed to building better futures - for our customers, our communities, and our people.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Assistant Store Manager, you'll be the Store Manager's trusted 2IC and a visible leader on the floor. You'll help provide reliable opening and closing coverage, lead from the counter, coach the team and keep the store running safely and efficiently. You'll build confidence with trade contractors and DIY customers, drive sales and key store results, and maintain strong operational standards across cash, inventory, merchandising and customer service. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who stays organised under pressure, takes ownership and is motivated by both a well-presented store and strong commercial performance.
This is a full-time role of 38 hours per week based at our Carnegie, VIC, Paint Spot Store. Our trade retail environment operates across a seven-day roster, so regular weekend availability and flexibility to support opening and closing coverage are important parts of the role.
Our Benefits
Up to $1,000 net annually to cover private health extras gap costs
Exclusive discounts on DuluxGroup products and partner offers
Stay active anytime, anywhere through our partnership with Fitness Passport
20 weeks paid parental leave (primary carers) and 2 weeks partner leave from day one
Market leading learning, development and career pathways
Access to our Wellbeing Hub and full EAP support
Recognition programs that celebrate your impact
What We’re Looking for
2IC leadership capability, including confidence leading shifts, supporting open and close routines, and stepping up when the Store Manager is unavailable
A hands-on coaching style that builds confidence, accountability, product knowledge and consistent service across the team
Visible leadership at the counter, with the confidence to serve and build relationships with trade contractors and DIY customers
A strong sales focus and genuine interest in store performance, including sales results, KPIs, customer opportunities and profitable growth, not only store presentation
Operational discipline across cash handling and EFTPOS, inventory control, stock levels, accurate paint mixing and tinting, merchandising, and daily store routines
A safety-first mindset and the physical capacity to safely undertake the manual handling and active duties of a paint retail environment
The ability to stay calm, organised and decisive while balancing customers, team priorities and operational demands during busy periods
Reliability, personal accountability and roster flexibility, including regular weekend work as a normal part of trade retail
Strong communication and customer service skills, with a practical, positive approach to solving problems and supporting the wider network
