Assistant Area Operational Manager

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Monitor purchasing, margins, operational costs and market trends to support commercial performance.
• Coordinate material purchasing, grading and processing to meet quality standards and customer specifications.
• Support stock management, forward sales and export activity to maximise value and stock turnover.
• Analyse commercial and operational data and report trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support plant efficiency, equipment utilisation and production targets.
• Promote health, safety, environmental compliance and operational excellence across sites.
• Assist with stocktakes, quality control and operational audits.
• Build stakeholder relationships, coach colleagues and share best practice.
• Contribute to business reviews, commercial planning and continuous improvement.

Candidate profile

• Ideally experienced in metal recycling, waste, manufacturing or another heavy industrial environment.
• Understanding of non-ferrous metals or transferable operational or commercial experience is sought.
• Knowledge of mobile plant and fixed processing equipment is sought.
• Commercial awareness, including purchasing, margins and export markets, is sought.
• Ability to analyse operational and financial data and support decisions.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive and self-motivated, with attention to detail and commitment to customer service, safety and compliance.
• Flexibility to travel regularly between sites and support regional operational needs.
