Amentum's Chemistry and Radioanalytical Solutions business is recruiting an Asbestos Analyst based in Birchwood, Warrington.
The role supports analytical services for national and international clients, including work connected with operational and decommissioning sites.
The analyst supports the Delivery Lead, laboratory preparation activities, laboratory standards, and a positive quality and safety culture.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze asbestos bulk and soil samples using polarised light microscopy and identify fibre types according to HSG248.
- Record and report findings accurately, producing reports and certificates of analysis.
- Process samples within agreed turnaround times to deliver timely client results.
- Follow UKAS standards, HSE guidance, and laboratory procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and assist with general laboratory and office duties.
- Support the Delivery Lead and preparation team, routine safety activities, and ongoing improvement of laboratory standards.
- Cross-train in other business areas when asbestos sample throughput is lower.
Required qualifications and experience
- BOHS P401 qualification.
- Significant experience in asbestos bulk identification and/or asbestos in soil analysis.
- Strong understanding of HSG248 and analytical techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Competence with Excel.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- BOHS P408 qualification.
- Experience working in a UKAS-accredited laboratory.
- Knowledge of asbestos testing in environmental and contaminated land samples.
