The 2nd Officer supports safe vessel navigation, voyage planning, and shipboard operations.
The posting describes onboard mentorship and career progression toward Chief Mate.
Duties
- Stand bridge watch, plot waypoints, and navigate safely through shipping lanes.
- Manage voyage planning and ECDIS updates; support the master with voyage planning.
- Manage GMDSS communications and ensure navigational instruments are calibrated and ready.
- Inspect safety equipment and support safe cargo operations and daily maintenance routines.
- Support safety management systems and compliance with international maritime standards.
- Coordinate with deck crew and the engineering team to maintain shipboard safety.
Required Certificates
- STCW II/1 Certificate of Competency: Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch.
- STCW II/1 IV/2 Ship Management qualification, as listed in the posting.
- STCW A-II/1 ECDIS and STCW IV/2 GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate.
- STCW VI/1 Basic Safety Training, including Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid, and Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities.
- STCW VI/2 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats; STCW VI/3 Advanced Firefighting.
- STCW A-VI/4.1 Medical First Aid; STCW VI/6-2 Designated Security Duties Training; STCW I/9 Medical Seafarer MLC.
