Wet Utilities Design Engineer

Role overview

Design and technical delivery

• Design potable-water, irrigation, fire-fighting, sewerage, and stormwater networks and related facilities, including manholes, chambers, pumping stations, wet wells, and tanks.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and schematics using CAD software.
• Develop hydraulic models and calculate pipe sizing, flow rates, pressure losses, and system capacities.
• Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments and evaluate environmental and topographical data.
• Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and bills of quantities.
• Ensure designs comply with local regulations, codes, standards, and company QA/QC and document-control procedures.

Coordination and construction support

• Coordinate wet-utility designs with architects, urban planners, and other engineering disciplines.
• Resolve design challenges and site-specific issues during design and construction.
• Support construction by reviewing shop drawings and responding to requests for information.
• Assist senior engineers with defining design scope and project submissions and contribute to risk assessments and design decisions focused on safety, operability, and maintainability.

Required qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years of engineering consultancy experience focused on wet-utilities or infrastructure design.
• Proven experience with UAE or GCC projects; direct Abu Dhabi authority experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modelling tools such as WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWorks, or EPANET.
• Proficiency in CAD/BIM tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Infrawizard, and Office tools for calculations and reporting.

Desired qualifications and knowledge

• Membership or progress toward membership in a professional institution such as ICE, CIWEM, or ASCE is an advantage.
• A master’s degree in Water Resources, Hydraulics, or Environmental Engineering is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Abu Dhabi utility infrastructure design manuals and authority submission procedures is desired.
• Knowledge of AWWA, BS/EN, and ISO water and wastewater standards and design of gravity and pressurized systems is desired.
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and multidisciplinary design coordination skills are desired.
