About The Service

Cardiff is growing faster than any other capital city in Europe and is committed to improving recycling performance, reducing waste, and supporting the transition to a more circular economy. The Waste Strategy service plays a key role in helping the city meet Welsh Government recycling targets while supporting residents, communities and partners to reduce, reuse and recycle more.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a proactive team delivering campaigns, projects and engagement activity that make a real difference to how waste services are used across the city.

About the job

As a Waste Campaigns Officer, you will support the delivery of waste minimisation and recycling initiatives across Cardiff. You will research best practice, design and deliver campaigns, and engage directly with residents, community groups, schools and partners to promote reuse, recycling and waste reduction.

You will work on a range of educational and engagement activities, helping communities understand waste services, encouraging behaviour change and supporting the implementation of Cardiff’s waste strategy and collection changes.

Key responsibilities include:

Researching best practice and analysing data to inform waste and recycling initiatives

Designing and delivering campaigns to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling

Engaging with residents and stakeholders through face-to-face work, events, schools, telephone and digital channels

Working with community groups and partners to deliver local projects and initiatives

Presenting information on waste and recycling to a range of audiences

Supporting service changes through consultation and tailored communications

Monitoring and reporting on participation, performance and campaign outcomes

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are passionate about environmental issues and enjoy working with people.

You will be approachable, adaptable and comfortable engaging with a wide range of audiences. You will be able to explain information clearly, encourage positive behaviour change, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You will be well organised, able to manage your own workload effectively, and confident working both independently and as part of a wider team. A flexible approach is essential, as the role may involve evening or weekend work, and travel across the city.
