Position summary

Lead characterization, yield analysis, statistical validation, and manufacturing readiness for semiconductor products from NPI through high-volume production.

Serve as a technical bridge among Design Engineering, Test Engineering, foundries, OSATs, and Operations.

Characterization, analysis, and test

  • Develop characterization plans and corner-lot requirements across process, voltage, temperature, and manufacturing lots.
  • Analyze electrical, optical, and functional distributions; set production test limits and guardbands; and support qualification readiness.
  • Monitor Cp/Cpk, yield, parametric distributions, and process stability; identify variation and drive corrective actions.
  • Plan and analyze DOEs across process variables, test conditions, environmental factors, and manufacturing variation.
  • Lead GRR studies and improve measurement and test-system capability, repeatability, accuracy, and correlation.
  • Investigate wafer sort and final test yield detractors and potential test escapes; recommend screening improvements.
  • Partner with Design and Test on quality, test coverage, defect trends, and continuous improvement.

Manufacturing interface and NPI

  • Work with foundries on process performance, excursions, capability trends, and yield programs; work with OSATs on production performance, yield loss, test implementation, and efficiency.
  • Partner with ATE Test Engineers on test effectiveness, guardbands, correlation, characterization coverage, and robustness.
  • Review and approve production test limits while balancing quality, yield, customer requirements, and cost.
  • Collaborate with Design from concept through volume release, drive DFx, define manufacturing readiness and release criteria, and support readiness reviews and production ramps.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering, physics, semiconductor engineering, applied statistics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of semiconductor Product Engineering experience, including NPI and production ramp support.
  • Strong understanding of wafer fabrication, assembly, and test processes, with direct foundry and OSAT partner experience.
  • Experience leading characterization and yield improvement programs.
  • Expertise in characterization, yield analysis, Cp/Cpk, SPC, DOE, GRR/MSA, correlation, root cause analysis, semiconductor manufacturing, wafer sort, final test, and product qualification.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with PICs, silicon photonics, high-speed SerDes, analog, mixed-signal, or optical products is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Advantest V93000 (93K) production test environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with JMP, Minitab, MATLAB, Python, and SQL is preferred.
  • Understanding of automotive or telecom quality methodologies is preferred.

Competencies and success measures

The role calls for statistical and analytical thinking, problem solving, cross-functional influence, effective communication, project management, and prioritization.

Success measures include yield and Cp/Cpk, characterization completeness, DOE effectiveness, GRR improvements, fewer manufacturing excursions, successful ramps, product quality, and yield and cost improvements.
