Position Overview
Carthage College’s Mathematics Department is hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics.
The appointment is two years and non-renewable, with an anticipated start date of February 1, 2027.
The faculty member will teach introductory mathematics and support the department’s mathematics and data science programs.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach introductory-level mathematics courses, including the calculus sequence and statistics.
- Teach additional mathematics and data science courses based on departmental needs and the candidate’s specialty.
- Support general education courses and students in programs across the college.
- Use or develop innovative approaches to course design and pedagogy.
Teaching Load
- The expected teaching load is 32 credits, generally eight four-credit courses per year.
- One course may take place during the intensive January term.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.S. in Mathematics or a related mathematical science by January 2027 is required.
- Related fields may include Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematics Education.
- Applicants should demonstrate a record of or potential for successful undergraduate mathematics instruction.
- Applicants should demonstrate interest in effective teaching and continued improvement of pedagogy.
- Enthusiasm for supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom is required.
- A Ph.D. is preferred.
