Viaduct Inspector (Rail)

Role overview

Inspection and supervision duties

• Inspect site conditions to confirm suitability for designed permanent works.
• Inspect viaduct construction sites for work quality, materials, and compliance with project plans.
• Supervise construction activities against the schedule and identify delays or deviations.
• Inspect beams, columns, supports, and other structural components against engineering and safety standards.
• Examine materials and workmanship against project specifications and quality standards.
• Verify on-site safety procedures to protect workers and the public.
• Review plans and specifications to understand project requirements and anticipate challenges.
• Inspect permanent and temporary construction works for compliance with approved methods and contract requirements.

Records and handover duties

• Maintain records of inspections and work executed.
• Direct inspectors and ensure performance.
• Assist with measuring work when required.
• Assist in reviewing installation and as-built drawings.
• Assist with completed-work inspections, prepare snag lists, and support handover to the operating authority.
• Participate in site health and safety matters as required by the Resident Engineer and project Safety Representative.

Required qualifications and experience

• Three-year diploma or bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
• At least four years of related construction supervision experience.
• Experience in construction inspection or supervision, particularly on infrastructure projects such as bridges or viaducts.
• Proficiency with inspection tools and technology, such as surveying equipment, structural analysis software, and project management tools.
• Availability to work night shifts.

Preferred experience and skills

• Related experience in Dubai, the UAE, or the GCC at an engineering consulting firm is preferred.
• Metro rail project experience is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience using computer software.
• Desired qualities include oral and written communication, clear communication with management and staff, and commitment to safe work practices.
• Strong communication and reporting skills for work with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
