Traffic Safety Engineer – Site Supervision

Role overview

Key duties

• Develop, review, and implement Construction Traffic Management Plans.
• Review and approve contractor traffic diversion schemes, detour plans, and temporary traffic control layouts.
• Coordinate road closures, lane reductions, and traffic switchovers with relevant authorities.
• Ensure traffic measures support safe construction while minimizing public inconvenience; review traffic impact assessments affecting existing roads.
• Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate technical assignments; work independently on technical matters with minimal supervision.
• Conduct traffic risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses; identify hazards near live traffic and rail corridors and implement mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with local traffic regulations, railway safety requirements, project HSE standards, and international traffic safety practices.
• Support incident investigations and corrective action implementation.

Experience and qualifications

• At least 10 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, road safety, or construction traffic management.
• Experience on major infrastructure projects such as rail, metro, highways, airports, or large transportation developments.
• Experience in active traffic environments and complex urban settings.
• Experience managing health, safety, and environmental aspects of large construction projects, preferably in the rail sector.
• Dubai work experience is preferred; previous GCC or international rail project experience is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation/traffic engineering, or a related discipline.
• A master's degree is a plus, especially for senior-level candidates.
• Professional engineering registration or chartered status such as PE, CEng, or equivalent recognized by UAE authorities is preferred.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, communication and interpersonal skills, collaborative stakeholder engagement, and attention to detail.

• New hires are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location.
