Role Description
The Tendering Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects based on tender drawings, specifications, and bill of quantities.
The role sits within the Tendering Department and plays a critical part in securing new contracts by ensuring bids are both commercially competitive and technically sound.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze tender documents, drawings, and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates
- Prepare bills of quantities (BOQ) and price schedules in line with project scope
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations for materials and services
- Coordinate with technical, procurement, and commercial teams to validate assumptions and costs
- Identify risks, exclusions, and clarifications to be raised with clients or consultants
- Ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time in accordance with tender deadlines
- Maintain a database of unit rates, material costs, and subcontractor pricing for benchmarking
- Review and incorporate labor, equipment, overhead, and margin components into final pricing
- Support post-tender negotiations and clarification meetings as needed
- Monitor market pricing trends and update cost data accordingly
- Price and estimate across Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical scopes within a single tender package
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in tendering or estimation within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications across Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and market rates across multiple scopes of work.
- Must be able to independently price Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical scopes of work.
- Experience with estimation software (e.g., CCS Candy, Primavera, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
