The role
The Technology & Data Manager leads and develops the technology and data department while remaining involved in project delivery and operational support.
The role leads a team of four specialists and covers technology, data, systems development, reporting, automation, integrations and digital innovation.
The position is hands-on, involving technical problem-solving, working with data, systems support and technical delivery.
Team leadership and technology
- Manage, mentor and develop the team; set objectives, priorities and performance expectations, and support future recruitment as the team grows.
- Own the technology strategy and roadmap; ensure business systems are secure, stable and fit for purpose.
- Oversee software-provider, IT-partner and technology-vendor relationships and support implementation of platforms and solutions.
- Lead system upgrades, integrations and process improvements; maintain business continuity, disaster recovery and cybersecurity controls.
Data and business intelligence
- Own the data strategy and governance framework and ensure data quality, integrity and accessibility.
- Develop management information, dashboards and KPI reporting to support data-driven decisions.
- Identify ways to improve operational efficiency through data analysis and automation.
Project and hands-on technical delivery
- Lead technology and data projects from concept through implementation, working with senior stakeholders and managing priorities, budgets and timelines.
- Contribute to technical development, configuration and troubleshooting; support data extraction, transformation and analysis.
- Build and maintain reports, dashboards and automated workflows; work with system integrations, APIs and databases where required.
- Provide technical expertise and problem resolution across the business.
Compliance and security
- Maintain effective information-security controls and support audits, regulatory reviews and risk management.
- Develop dashboards and systems that improve compliance-data visibility.
Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience in a technology, data or IT management role, including managing and developing technical teams.
- Strong understanding of business systems, databases and data management principles; experience delivering technology and digital-transformation projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience creating management information and business-intelligence reports.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; able to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical delivery.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Query, Docker, SQL, DBeaver or similar DBMS, NodeJS, React, Python, API integration and automation technologies.
- Proficient in AI development practices using Claude or similar software, and experienced in GitHub repository management.
Desirable experience
- Experience in financial services, insurance or another regulated industry.
- Experience with CRM platforms, insurance systems, customer-journey platforms, or digital quote-and-buy or customer self-service platforms.

- The role is based at The Refinery, Atlantic Close, Swansea Enterprise Park, SA7 9FJ.
