OVERVIEW

Kathy Kuo Home is a retail brand that operates like a software company. We build and run our own e-commerce platform, and we build most of the tools our teams use to run the business: product information management, order management, a vendor portal, an ERP, trade and design-services programs, customer support tooling, and the integrations that connect them to our partners and marketing stack.

We are hiring a Technical Product Manager to own product definition and delivery across that portfolio. You will be the primary bridge between our business teams, our vendors, and a small, senior engineering team. You will run discovery with the people who use our tools, research what exists in the market, decide with us whether to build or buy, write the functional specifications engineers build from, and manage the roadmap and timelines so that every stakeholder knows what is coming and when.

This is a hands-on, generalist role. There is no separate design, research, analyst, or project-management function behind you. You will report to the Head of Engineering, who owns architecture and infrastructure; you own the "what," the "why," and the "when," so that engineering can focus on the "how."

Portfolio Roadmap & Delivery

Own the roadmap and timeline for each application in the portfolio: e-commerce storefront, admin and order management, PIM, vendor portal, ERP, trade program, and support tooling.

Maintain a single, cross-application view of what is in flight, what is next, and what is blocked, so that engineering capacity is allocated deliberately rather than to whoever asked last.

Identify and manage dependencies between applications (for example, an ERP data change that gates a vendor-portal feature) and sequence work accordingly.

Set realistic delivery dates with engineering, track progress against them, and communicate status, slips, and tradeoffs to stakeholders before they have to ask.

Run the recurring cadence: sprint planning, backlog grooming, release planning, and stakeholder roadmap reviews.

Prioritize competing requests from merchandising, sales, customer experience, operations, marketing, and finance into a single, defensible sequence, and be able to explain the sequence to the people who did not get their item first.

Triage inbound support and defect reports against roadmap work each week; decide what ships now, what waits, and what is not worth fixing.

Write acceptance criteria and sign off on features before release.

Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Run discovery with business teams: understand how work is actually done today, where it breaks, and what a better version looks like.
  • Document current-state workflows, data flows, and pain points; reconcile conflicting needs across departments before they reach engineering.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional specifications: user roles, workflows, screens, data requirements, business rules, edge cases, and success criteria.
  • Produce specifications detailed enough that an engineer can build from them without a series of clarifying meetings, and structured enough that architecture can be reviewed in a single pass.

Build vs. Buy & Vendor Evaluation

For each new initiative, research the market: identify candidate tools and platforms, map them against real requirements, and understand pricing, integration surface, and operational cost.

Make a clear build-vs-buy recommendation with honest tradeoffs, including what a purchased tool would impose on our data model and existing integrations.

Serve as the technical counterpart in vendor conversations: read API documentation, ask the questions that surface gaps, and scope integration work before contracts are signed.

Own the relationship with selected vendors through implementation.

UX & Feature Design

Design workflows, information architecture, and screen structure for internal tools and storefront features. Wireframe-level fidelity is expected; polished visual design is not.

Apply established patterns and common sense: a merchandiser managing 30,000 SKUs, a CX agent processing a return, a vendor updating inventory, and a trade customer placing a quote each need a tool shaped for the job.

Validate designs with the people who will use them before build, and follow up after launch to confirm the tool actually improved their work.

Storefront Experience & Performance

Define and monitor storefront KPIs: conversion, checkout completion, search and navigation effectiveness, and post-purchase experience.

Identify gaps in the customer journey and specify improvements.

Partner with Marketing on launches that require platform work.

A REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT

Our merchandising team needs better tools for managing product information. In this role you would: meet with the team to understand how products are created, enriched, and published today and where that process fails; research the PIM market and evaluate the leading options against those needs and against our platform's data model; recommend whether to adopt a tool or extend our own; and, if we build, write the functional specification that the engineering team implements. You would then slot the work into the portfolio roadmap alongside the ERP and vendor-portal initiatives already in flight, set and hold the timeline, own the rollout, and measure whether it worked.

If that sequence sounds like the interesting part of the job rather than the overhead, this role is for you.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years in product management, business analysis, or solutions consulting, with meaningful time as the sole or lead product owner for a system.
  • Experience managing roadmaps and delivery timelines across multiple applications or workstreams sharing one engineering team, including cross-project dependencies and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience owning a custom-built commerce, transactional, or back-office platform, not solely a hosted platform such as Shopify or BigCommerce.
  • Demonstrated ability to run requirements discovery with non-technical business users and produce specifications engineers have built from.
  • Experience designing internal tools or back-office workflows, not only consumer-facing surfaces.
  • Comfortable with data: can read a schema, understand entity relationships, and write basic SQL to answer your own questions.
  • Experience evaluating third-party software and scoping integrations against vendor APIs.
  • Strong judgment about what makes an application sensible to use and sensible to maintain.
  • Clear written communication. Much of this job is producing documents that other people act on.
  • Comfortable operating without a large support structure and with evolving priorities.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

PIM, ERP, OMS, CRM, or vendor/supplier-portal implementation or product ownership.

Program or technical project management experience in a small engineering organization.

E-commerce in a premium, luxury, home, or lifestyle context.

B2B or trade-program commerce.

Familiarity with payments, tax, search, and marketing-platform integrations.

Familiarity with analytics tooling and experimentation.

Prior work at a company that builds rather than buys its core commerce stack.
